Plastic Latch Cover
A very simple-to-install without tools. Device available from lizshepherd11@yahoo.com ~$20+shipping. Prevents the emergency latch from being pulled with a hook. Fits Liftmaster, Craftsman and Chamberlain garage door models with T-rail or I-beam-rails. Liz manufactured these devices and is selling them individually. They do not work with Genie garage door models.
Metal Latch Cover
Garage Protect device ~$40. Fits on most garage door brands and models. Prevents the latch from being pulled with a hook. Available at GarageProtect.com and Amazon. Requires a little skill and some tools to install. Garage door professionals recommend this device. This device allows you to keep your red emergency handle pull cord attached.
Shields to block access
Easy to install without tools ~ $25, available on Amazon. Device can deter access to emergency latch, but has limited effectiveness from different angles.

Available at most hardware stores ~$15. Just remember to unlock them before opening you garage door or you risk damaging your garage motor.
Sure Lock automatic deadbolt
Specialty aftermarket automatic deadbolt that connects to any model of automatic garage door motor and activates/deactivates when the garage door is opened or closed. Limited availability at www.garage-lock.com ~$130. Requires skilled installation. Several neighbors have had success with this device. This lock can be sourced and installed by neighbors Ken Wicker or Martin Lee
Liftmaster automatic deadbolt
Model 841LM ~$100-$150 available on Amazon or via Garage door installers. Requires skilled installation and only works with recent liftmaster5 garage motor models ($800-$1,200) Deadbolt locks and unlocks automatically when garage is opened & closed.
Alarms
This simple, inexpensive alarm is available from Amazon and is relatively easy to install. It triggers when the door is opened, or when motion is detected inside your garage. It arms/disarms with a wireless keychain remote, and the siren is separate from the trigger device (so burglars cannot deactivate it). Best of all it’s LOUD and will wake you up in the middle of the night when it’s triggered.
Steel Screens
This heavy steel mesh, if properly installed, can prevent access through garage air vents while allowing safe air flow. It’s also available at local hardware stores.
